Join the Reserves
SOE and Planetside are now offering anyone a chance to play for free through their Planetside Reserve offer. This allows players to download the full version of the game and play with a character up to Battle Rank 6. Reserves can also update to the full game, continuing to use the same characters but without the experience cap.
The New Conglomerate and Vanu Sovereignty lies have already corrupted the minds of many new recruits, who have been pushed into action against the Terran Republic. However, these recruits have already learned to fear one veteran Republic platoon, whispering it in trembling voices while their commanders are out of earshot. All of them are experienced enough to dread one thing: encountering the Octavian Vanguard on the battlefield.
The Octavian Vanguard has recently reached a milestone, obtaining 1 million outfit points, one of the smallest outfits to do so.

Giant Robots Invade!
The latest issue of Computer Gaming World contains a few details of the new Battleframes or BFR's as they are being called.

The article is legitimate and BFR's are a feature that is underway on the PS team. Recertification Patch
The PlanetSide version 2.3.6 patch is now live. Note that all your characters' certification points are now free to use on recertification and the Lodestar is available (under the Air Support certification).
At 3 AM Pacific, we will be releasing an update with the following changes:
- The Battle Concentration Initiative has come to the live servers. Click here to learn more about it.
- The Lodestar has arrived! Learn more about this new vehicle transport here.
- Player Recertification is also live for the first time. Learn about the new cert options here!
- Ancient Module Sockets are now located in the main room of facilities, instead of the generator room.
- Generators will no longer take excessive aggravated damage from plasma grenades.
- FPS optimizations have been made to reduce the load on the CPU.
- Surge Implant users will no longer be able to warp around the screen and become extremely difficult to hit.
- Improved vehicle handling and climbing capabilities.
- Players were unable to see orbital strikes that were initiated before the area come onto their screen. This issue is fixed and players should be able to see all Orbital Strikes.
- Players will be able to remap the "Toggle Special Ability" key properly.
- Players who bail from an aircraft and pull out a weapon will no longer leave smoke trails in the sky.
- Platoons will now display member squads each on a seperate line by default.

Lodestar Revealed
Sony have released preliminary details on the new Lodestar in the In Testing section of their website. Apart from being able to carry vehicles it will also have repair and rearm facilities while undamaged and landed.

PlanetSide: Core Combat
SOE have announced details on the first expansion for PlanetSide, Core Combat. The add-on introduces six underground caverns and new alien technology. It is due to be released in October. More details on the official website and at GameSpot.

PlanetSide Launch
PlanetSide launched yesterday and copies were shipped to stores in the US and Canada. Only a few players were playing however but the servers should be more populated today. Only Markov (West Coast) and Emerald (East Coast) appear to be live at the moment but SOE have said that players will be able to play on any server regardless of their geographic location. The European servers are expected soon, probably on the 23rd with the European release of PlanetSide. OV should be playing a few days after this (Amazon.co.uk estimate that I should have my copy on the 26th or 27th).

Beta Closure
Previously we had discussed taking down the servers as early as tonight, but we are delaying that until Saturday night, 5/17. Probably at midnight PST, but I'll try to make it 2AM or 3AM in the morning after most people have finished playing.- Twist
After the wait for the retail release we should see the newly announced Skyguard, anti-aircraft buggy. Also coming soon to PlanetSide are two new aircraft (The Liberator, a brand new common pool bomber, and the Lodestar, a vehicle transport aircraft), Platoons, Sanctuary Strikes and Quarterly Outfit Competitions (Such as "Capture the Flag"). PlanetSide's subscription will cost $12.99 a month.
Update: Twist says that the beta will now end today (Sunday 18th) at 16:00 PST.

New PlanetSide.com
The official PlanetSide site has received a new look along with some new content. Among the new additions is a How to Play section which also includes an up-to-date manual along with links to Armour, Certifications, Ranks, Vehicles, Weapons, Squads, Outfits, Empires, Voice Macros and even Jargon. There is a PlanetSide World Map which will provide real-time information about battles once the game launches. Also arriving with the game's launch will be a "My PlanetSide" section which will contain rankings, world status, outfit profiles, character pages, a leaderboard and more. Take a look for yourself!
