It has been a busy month in the world of MMOs, here is just some of the latest news that has caught the interest of OV members.
Planetside 2 is a game that is certainly being closely followed after OV spent a lot of time as an Outfit in the original. They have currently entered closed Beta and at the same time have released a cinematic trailer. As good as this trailer is, it is a little unbelievable that a Smurf could kill anything without a Jackhammer… Loyalty Until Death!
Another game that is currently in Beta is Guild Wars 2 , a sequel that looks like it may define the next generation of Sword and Sorcery MMOs, and all for zero subscription fee. It promises to be a living, breathing fantasy world with personal storylines, a dynamic event system and world-class PvP. The pre-order headstart begins on 25th August.
Star Wars: The Old Republic has also announced some upcoming content, complete with a cinematic teaser featuring a droid design that may be familiar to those who have played the previous Knights of the Old Republic games. Not only that, but Bioware have also announced that they will be expanding Star Wars: The Old Republic to include a Free-to-Play option later this year.
In addition, Star Trek Online has also recently launched Season 6, which features Fleet Starbases and introduces the Tholians, first seen in the original series, to the game.
With so many great games being released or updated, it is going to be a busy second half of the year for Octavian Vanguard. See you in game.
It’s the game where it all started, a space combat MMO that saw squadrons of fighters engage in PvP combat across a vast three dimensional universe. One such squadron was Octavian Vanguard, who have endured since the early days of Jumpgate Classic, which was launched in 2001.
The game itself, however, will be shutting down at the end of April, leaving no traces of its existance except for the communities and friendships that were created during it’s 11 year run. A message from the team behind the game has been left on the Jumpgate Website.
A sequal to the original game, Jumpgate Evolution, had previously been announced. However, it is believed that this game is longer in development.
Even without the Octavian Empire to protect, you can be sure that Octavian Vanguard will continue to thrive in other online games. Should some smart forward thinking games developer think to make another game featuring high quality first person space combat, in depth logistical challenges and a degree of team based action, you can be sure that OV will be there to once again challenge for the position of best squadron out there.
Star Trek Online, an MMO in set in the Trek Universe by Cryptic Studios, is now available free of charge.
The game was originally released in 2010 and featured a hybrid game engine, with both space and ground combat. Each player is the Captain of a starship, fighting, exploring and boldly going on behalf of either the United Federation of Planets or the Klingon Empire.
Now the Free-to-play game is available to anyone wishing to give the game a try, with future content funded through the sale of items in the in-game store. Octavian Vanguard originally set up a ‘Fleet’ (STO guild) when the game launched and this fleet will likely see some activity as new content is released after the free-to-play launch.

Octavian Vanguard have taken a step into a galaxy far, far away with the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic. The MMO game, created by Bioware, allows us to combine classic Octavian teamwork with a fantastic new storyline set in the Star Wars universe.
Octavian Vanguard are on a PvP server, Ahto City, as a Republic guild. Members that have been given early access to the game have already created a range of characters, including Jedi, Smugglers and Troopers.
We look forward to seeing you in-game, either as allies loyal to the Republic or evil members of the Sith Empire that must be erradicated to save the galaxy. Interested in getting in contact with us? Why not post in the Star Wars Cantina on our forums.
