Jumpgate Evolution evolved : Squad Wars

Take control of a state of the art spacefighter in SQUAD WARS™, the new free-to-play team based space combat game from END Games Entertainment.  The team behind Squad Wars includes the creative forces behind the classic groundbreaking space combat MMOG, Jumpgate, and numerous other online games from the last 15 years.

Form a Squad and fly into harrowing dogfights and zero-G furballs as you vie for dominance of the stars against competing Squads. Gain rank, experience and cash to upgrade your ship. Hack your CoBot™ to upgrade in-flight support abilities, and rack up achievements or purchase unlocks for new fighters and ever more devastating weapons. Forge your Squad’s unique identity and battle other Squads for control of entire systems (in the name of the Interstellar Conglomerates, of course).

“Create an elite squad of mercenary space pilots with your friends to seek fortune and glory across the galaxy.”

Squad Wars is space combat the way it’s meant to be; furious, uncompromising and totally intense. This is no on-rails space game, this is true hardcore PvP space combat. Space is stone cold dangerous; here in the fields, it’s get to flying or get busy dying.

Jumpgate Classic to Close Down

It’s the game where it all started, a space combat MMO that saw squadrons of fighters engage in PvP combat across a vast three dimensional universe. One such squadron was Octavian Vanguard, who have endured since the early days of Jumpgate Classic, which was launched in 2001.

The game itself, however, will be shutting down at the end of April, leaving no traces of its existance except for the communities and friendships that were created during it’s 11 year run. A message from the team behind the game has been left on the Jumpgate Website.

A sequal to the original game, Jumpgate Evolution, had previously been announced. However, it is believed that this game is longer in development.

Even without the Octavian Empire to protect, you can be sure that Octavian Vanguard will continue to thrive in other online games. Should some smart forward thinking games developer think to make another game featuring high quality first person space combat, in depth logistical challenges and a degree of team based action, you can be sure that OV will be there to once again challenge for the position of best squadron out there.

City of Heroes : Spring Fling is near!

Spring is just around the corner, and Cupid’s arrows are nocked–it’s almost time for the annual Spring Fling celebration! This time, the matchmaking cherub has gone all out with new missions, badges, and temporary powers!

In addition to the yearly co-op tasks of fighting Arachnos to retake tainted water from the Well of the Furies, retrieving Aphrodite’s Girdle for the god Eros, and stopping that dimension-hopping Red Cap, Snaptooth, this year’s Spring Fling introduces two brand new holiday missions, with new rewards!

Widow in Red

Ms. Liberty (Heroes) and Arbiter Hawk (Villains) have recruited you for a secret mission involving the infamous Red Widow, Lord Recluse’s long-deceased love. This mission is available for characters level 30 or higher, and awards the Widow Maker badge for completion!

Valentines

No Valentine’s Day would be complete without the exchange of love letters, but many of these heartfelt confessions have gotten lost throughout Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, and Praetoria! DJ Zero has charged you with finding these Valentines and delivering them to their intended recipients, but that doesn’t mean you have to: if you’re feeling mischievous, you can misdirect the letters!

These Valentines drop from eligible mobs in Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, and Praetoria during Spring Fling. Players must be level 20 or higher, and have completed an attunement mission from Ganymede (Heroes) or Scratch (Villains). Completing a Valentine mission rewards you with new temp powers Arrows of Romance, which increases regeneration of allies and placates foes; or Arrows of Jealousy, which increases damage dealt by friends and confuses enemies. Completing Valentines missions will also award the Match Maker or Missed Connection badges!

The Spring Fling event begins Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 7am PST (10am EST / 3pm GMT / 4pm CET) and ends on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 7am PST (10am EST / 3pm GMT / 4pm CET)!
